Retargeting
Leaving money on the table?
Your website visitors are an extremely important asset to you. But over 98% of the visitors to your site end up leaving before completing a transaction or truly interacting with your business. Your visitors may be simply researching your products, may have an intent to perform a transaction during that visit, may have registered at your website, or may already be your customer. But, if they leave your site without performing a transaction, a simple reminder might be all you need to bring them back to you. Reaching your already-qualified customers is a great way to generate totally incremental revenue.
What is retargeting or audience extension?
Retargeting or remarketing is finding users across the web by placing one or more numeric values in a cookie on the user's machine, and then later (via a common adserver) looking for cookies with those values and serving a specific message to users with those cookies. Audience extension works in a similar way, but is done in order to expand the amount of advertising inventory beyond a website's immediate audience by targeting those same users on other websites. Read more about how it works.
Why is retargeting important?
Online businesses face significant challenges in acquiring and retaining customers. You may be investing in acquiring a visitor, either with paid search or display advertising. Of all the visitors that come to your site, usually only between 2 and 5 percent will convert (completing a form or making a purchase). But what about the other 98 percent of visitors? Many of these users may fail to convert for fairly mundane reasons - perhaps they closed the window by mistake, or did another web search and found one of your competitors' offers and intended to come back - but didn't remember your site name. Don't you want another chance to win these users' business?
